DO YOU KNOW THERE ARE 9 OCCUPATION LISTS NOW?

From 1 July 2017, there are actually 9 occupation lists rather than 2 occupation lists.

In the past, if you wanted to apply for an Australian skill or work visa, you would refer to the Skilled Occupation List(SOL) or Consolidated Skill Occupation List(CSOL), there were only two lists. Since the announcement from the Australian Government in April 2017 about the changes to the sc457 and the Employer Nominated work visas, these two lists were transferred to the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) and the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL).

Thus, when the Government made further amendments to add and remove occupations to the occupation lists in July 2017, people generally expected that there were still the same two lists i.e. MLTSSL and STSOL but only the occupations in these two lists were changed. Surprisingly, there were actually nine new different lists introduced although they are still called MLTSSL and STSOL.

Therefore, when you apply for a skill or work visa and you refer to the Department’s site to check about your nominated occupation, you could become very confused and may easily make the mistake in believing that your nominated occupation is available for the application but actually it is not and has your visa application refused.

We have created these two consolidated lists to make your work easier. Hope the Department of Immigration will improve and simplify these nine lists sooner or later.
